The Golden Circle and Foodie Tour

Pingvellir National Park occupies a special place in the Icelandic Sagas as the location that their Althing (Parliament) met for almost 900 years. It also happens to be where the European and North American Tectonic Plates meet, and you can walk between them! From there we will visit the other must sees of Iceland – Geysir and Gulfoss. Along the way, we will enjoy Tomato Soup from the area’s famous greenhouses and Ice Cream from a local farm.

South Coast Offerings

We will explore the South Coast of Iceland, heading as far East as Solheimjokull (The Sun’s Home Glacial Tongue).

We will also visit The Saga Centre, which tells the story of Njall’s Saga, largely held as the one of the finest examples of Medieval Literature in the world. The Saga is currently being depicted in a tapestry that will surpass the Bayeaux Tapestry as the longest in the world when it is completed. During our visit we will learn about the saga, view the tapestry, and even contribute a few stitches if you want!

Alafoss Lopi Wool Factory Tour

A tour of the factory followed by a trip to their outlet store for all the Lopi you could wish for.

Myvatn Nature Baths

Ah, geothermal baths!

The Textile Museum

The Textile Museum in Blönduós exhibits a unique collection of homemade wool and textile items. It also exhibits beautiful Icelandic national costumes and artistic embroideries along with many of the tools and equipment used to produce them.

Hespa Yarn Dying Demonstration

We will visit Gudrun Bjarnadottir in her home studio for a demonstration of natural plant dying and then have a chance to purchase her beautiful creations! Gudrun is a botanist at the university, but her beautiful yarns are now everywhere in Iceland – even the airport gift shop!

The Icelandic Knitter Studio Visit

Helene Magnusson is a wonderful designer keeping Icelandic traditions alive while simultaneously taking them into the modern world. We will visit her studio in Reykjavik to hear about her work and see some of her designs.
